The Show

How would you describe your show in one sentence?: A celebration of great music and silliness.
What makes your show, your show?: I'm the one talking and playing the tunes. That's either a selling point or a warning sign.
Favourite features or games to do on air?: The Magna Charter. We serve Magna justice for petty crimes. I also love a bit of Fourplay, the Magna Fourplay of course. Four words, one connection. It's addictively challenging.
What kind of listener will love your show?: Anyone with ears. More specifically, people who love great music and enjoy a bit of silliness.

Their Journey

How did you first get into radio?: I started in student radio at Leeds University. I was a character on the breakfast show called Ronald Da Shl*ng, a Dutchman who wasn't afraid to say the wrong thing. I then hosted Drivetime and, after university, worked for a station in Marbella called BFM 95.5FM. It was a real adventure and that's when I properly caught the radio bug.

The Listeners

What do you enjoy most about interacting with listeners?: Making them the stars of the show. Listeners are far funnier than me and I love celebrating them.
A message or moment from a listener that's stuck with you?: A listener once called to dedicate a song to her ex-boyfriend and repeatedly shouted banned words on air. I nearly lost my job.

Music and Influences

Earliest memory of listening to radio?: Listening out for snow-day announcements on my local station, Fox FM. The joy of hearing my school was closed was unparalleled. I wanted to be the person delivering that kind of happiness.
Biggest broadcasting influences?: Danny Baker and Johnny Vaughan.
One song you'll never get bored of?: Anything by Queen or Fleetwood Mac.
What kind of music do you love off air?: These days, I don't really listen to music outside of work. If you were an accountant, you wouldn't spend your evenings doing sums.
A track that always gets a reaction on your show?: Yes, mainly from me. Holding Out for a Hero by Bonnie Tyler. I always end up belting it out in the studio.

Magna

What does being part of Magna Radio mean to you?: It's exciting to be surrounded by talented, definitely more talented than me, like-minded people.
What excites you most about what we're building here?: The connection between listeners and local businesses. Celebrating the amazing things people across Lincolnshire and the East Midlands are doing.

Looking Ahead

What would you love to achieve on air?: A full year without an OFCOM complaint.
Where do you want to take your show next?: Skegness.

Quickfire

Tea or coffee?: Both. Ideally in the same mug.
Early start or late finish?: Early start. My kids are nocturnal. Twit and Twoo have me up before 6am every morning.
One word to describe your show: Tolerable.
Guilty pleasure song?: What Does the Fox Say?
Something people wouldn't expect about you: I'm married. Frankly, I'm as surprised as anyone.
Hidden talents or unusual skills?: I can communicate with sheep and peacocks.
