Almost 2,000 North Lincolnshire families reliant on heating oil or LPG have received more than £550,000 towards their energy costs.
A report to North Lincolnshire Council’s Cabinet reveals that 1,797 households using heating oil have each received £300, while 128 households reliant on LPG have received £100.
In total, 1,925 households had received £551,900 through the scheme by 2 September 2026.
Cllr Rob Waltham, leader of North Lincolnshire Council, said: “While government support for local families has fallen away, and other decisions are making it harder, we have promised to stand alongside people facing financial pressure – and this shows we are delivering on that promise.
“Almost £552,000 has gone directly to households reliant on heating oil or LPG. With winter approaching, it is right that this practical support remains available to those who need it.”
The scheme was launched by the council in May following a significant increase in global oil prices.
Cllr Tim Mitchell, cabinet member for finance and efficiency, said: “This is a choice we made to put more money into the pockets of local residents.
“Residents whose homes are not connected to the mains gas network can face particularly high and volatile heating bills. We made a deliberate choice to offer £300 to households using heating oil and £100 to those reliant on LPG – and moved quickly to ensure that support reached eligible residents.
“We will continue to monitor demand carefully so that the funding remains available as winter approaches.”
Eligible households that use heating oil as their primary source of heating can apply for a one-off payment of £300. Households reliant on LPG can apply for £100.
The support forms part of the council’s wider use of the Crisis and Resilience Fund to provide immediate assistance while helping households become more financially resilient.
Cabinet members are being asked to support the continued availability of the payments until March 2027, with applications expected to rise as winter approaches.
