Cllr Barrie Pierpoint has presented funds of £2,200 each to five local causes, following a successful year of fundraising.
The former Mayor, supported by his fundraising committee, raised an impressive £11,000 - exceeding the £10,000 target they set at the start of his civic year.
Taking a fresh approach to fundraising, Cllr Pierpoint invited nominations from charities, community projects and good causes. From almost 40 nominations received, five were selected:
St Botolph’s Boston Foodbank - Providing essential food support and free lunches for children during school holidays.
Boston Men's Shed - A welcoming space for men to connect, share skills, and support one another.
Centrepoint Outreach - Supporting vulnerable and homeless individuals across Boston.
Headway Lincolnshire - Offering specialist counselling and support for those affected by brain injuries.
Support Group for Adults with Autism - Creating community and resources for autistic adults.
Funds were raised through a combination of generous donations from residents, businesses and organisations, alongside a variety of events organised throughout the year. These included quiz nights, a collection at Asda, a race night, suppers and coffee mornings, a trip on the Boston Belle on the Wash and the Mayor’s Fun Fundraising night.
Cllr Pierpoint thanks everyone who contributed to fundraising in any way during his year as Mayor.
He said: “At the start of the year, we set ourselves the ambitious challenge of raising money for not just one, but five good causes, with a target of £10,000. To have exceeded that total is simply incredible and truly heartwarming.
“I am extremely grateful for every donation, no matter the size, and to everyone who attended events or gave up their time to help organise them.
“Each organisation has received £2,200, and they’ve all shared how much of an impact this funding will have for the people they support across the borough. Thank you for helping to make that difference.”
