Volunteers across West Lindsey get ready to welcome Tour of Britain
Volunteers across West Lindsey are preparing to welcome the Lloyds Tour of Britain, decorating streets, shops and windows ahead of the race on 2 September. In Caistor, volunteers have collected and decorated more than 40 bikes, while Market Rasen is also preparing events and cycling-themed displays for race day.
Horncastle to be part of Age-Friendly pilot project with launch of business award scheme
Horncastle has been selected as East Lindsey’s first pilot Age-Friendly town, with councils developing a new business award scheme and community initiatives to improve accessibility and inclusion for older residents. Monthly drop-ins at Horncastle Library will give residents and businesses the chance to share views, with the first taking place on 10 September.
Boston Borough Council - Boston Guildhall Museum achieves outstanding Visit England Quality Assessment Score
Boston Guildhall Museum has achieved an impressive **90% overall score** in its latest Visit England VAQAS assessment, up from 82% in 2025. The result recognises significant improvements to the visitor experience, including a 93% Attraction score and perfect 100% scores for Cleanliness and Retail. Recent investment in the welcome area, retail space, signage and branding has helped strengthen the museum’s offering.

DEFRA’s Sustainable Farming Incentive 2026 is driving farmers towards high-tech platforms that simplify complex funding applications while they tackle an increasingly challenging summer of heat and drought. With DEFRA now partnering with Ordnance Survey, three innovative startups will receive up to £20,000 each through the next Geovation Accelerator cohort to develop data-driven solutions for more efficient, resilient and sustainable land use. Geovation alumni such as JustFarm and Land App demonstrate the potential, with JustFarm already helping more than 700 farms plan SFI agreements, while Land App has mapped 80% of England’s agricultural land.

As travellers increasingly seek immersive, sensory experiences, food is becoming a gateway to culture, connection and discovery. New research will explore how culinary curiosity is influencing holiday choices, with destinations such as Japan capturing the imagination through street food, regional ramen, tea ceremonies, sake culture and family-run eateries beyond the tourist trail. Taste-led tourism is on the rise, with travellers using food to uncover lesser-known regions, traditions and ways of life. Ahead of **Yakiniku Day on 29 August**, an unofficial Japanese celebration of grilled meat, the research will highlight how food is helping adventurous travellers experience Japan in a more authentic and meaningful way.

New research suggests friendships can drift during the colder months, with 42% of Brits saying maintaining friendships takes more effort in winter, while 62% have lost touch with a good friend after stopping regular face-to-face meet-ups. With cost, weather and lack of time among the biggest barriers, The Oddfellows is highlighting the importance of affordable, accessible opportunities to stay socially connected year-round, with Jayne Holgate and evolutionary anthropologist Dr Anna Machin available for interview.

BarrowFest brings village together for another summer celebration
Hundreds of people gathered in Barrow-upon-Humber as BarrowFest returned with live entertainment, family activities, food and drink, and community celebrations. Organised by volunteers from Barrow Events Group, the festival brought residents, local businesses and community groups together, with North Lincolnshire Council supporting the event through a £3,000 Community Grant Fund award. Cllr Rob Waltham praised the volunteers behind the event, saying the funding showed how a relatively small amount can make a visible difference when put into the hands of committed local people.
Birchwood’s Pride in Place Neighbourhood Board has now been appointed
Birchwood’s Pride in Place Neighbourhood Board has now been fully appointed, with Gregory Hughes as Chair and Gary Smith and Martin Hickerton as Co-Deputy Chairs. The Board will work with City of Lincoln Council and MP Hamish Falconer to shape how £20 million of Government funding is invested in Birchwood over the next 10 years. The programme will be community-led, with residents’ priorities helping to guide improvements to local spaces, strengthen the community and create new opportunities.
