What a show today, bang in the middle of Found It… Lincolnshire Week, and the history questions really got people thinking.
I put three Lincolnshire history questions to listeners and staff, asking them to guess the combined total number of years since Lincoln Cathedral was consecrated, Lincoln Castle was built by William the Conqueror, and the Second Battle of Lincoln was fought. That last one is a cracker of a bit of history, by the way. William Marshal leading Royalist forces to defeat the French army of the future Louis VIII, right here on our doorstep. The correct total across all three was 2,701 years.
Our Magna staff took on the challenge too. Lucy and Olivia both had a go, and by Olivia's own admission they were miles off! But the star of the round was Julie in Skegness, who guessed 2,700. Just one away from the right answer. Brilliant effort, Julie.
Then came the Topical Tune, and the story was a good one. A couple who scaled the Empire State Building and got engaged up there, 1,400 feet in the air, turned up to their court appearance and couldn't keep their hands off each other. Classic. I asked listeners what song best sums it up, and the answers were brilliant. Top spot went to Jody in Boston with Higher Love by Steve Winwood. A worthy number one, I think most of us would agree.
